Acupuncture

3e

Acupuncture is a simple, drug-free way to ease or stop pain, and it's becoming more widely used by the medical profession all the time. It involves placing tiny needles into the skin at specific points on your body. This stimulates your body to release endorphins – the brain’s natural pain-relieving hormones – and stimulates nerve fibres so they don’t carry pain messages to your brain.

As well as easing your discomfort, acupuncture can help you regain the use of muscles inhibited by pain, helping you get back to full fitness. It usually takes around four sessions for you to feel the effect of the treatment, and once you do, your pain may go away for a short amount of time, weeks, months, or even for good. Acupuncture also has a relaxing effect, which many patients find helps them sleep better, feel better and cope with their injury more easily.

The physios at out clinic who carry out acupuncture are fully qualified members of the AACP (Acupunture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists). The needles they use on you are sterile and single use, so there is no risk of infection. They’re really fine too, so the treatment isn’t painful.
